Happy Birthday To Me
Much like my real life birthdays these days, even my virtual birthdays seem to pass by without mention. I normally prefer it that way but I’m really quite proud that I’ve kept this going for a year. Yeah, that’s right, on the 28th of July this blog was 1 year old, a whole year and 287 posts since I started blogging about how I make money online. Anniversaries are usually a time to reminisce so as you do I’ve had a flick back through some of the posts, some are OK, some are good, some are just plain rubbish. Most of what I write seems tongue in cheek. That reflects the way I deal with real life as well as this online stuff I suppose. What I don’t think most people would get from this is that I actually take all this quite seriously, believe it or not I really am a professional……hmm….not sure what I am but I make 100% of my living online. My wife works so that’s pretty cool, but even so there is a huge amount riding on how and what I do online. I’ve only got 1 paying client left who I do SEO work for, everything else is completely self sufficient and depends on how and what I do online. Shit, I’m starting to scare myself now.
One year ago I did my first blog earnings summary, I didn’t earn much and wasn’t really expecting to either. 1 year later the direct earnings summary is actually quite similar (My blog earnings for July this year):-
Adsense - $7.23 (This is because I no longer use it on the home page)
Kontera - $0 (Don’t use them on here anymore)
TLA - $50
Affiliate Sales - $29.10
Altogether - $86.33, considering I made nearly $77 during my first month it’s not exactly a huge increase. But, and there’s a big but here, it’s the indirect money from making this blog that is where the real value is for me and a big part of why I’ve kept it going (besides of course my need to share and rant).
WidgetBucks Referral Earnings - $500+ per month (Even when my own earnings with them crashed due to policy changes my super duper referrals were able to make sure I received a good payment each month).
My HomePages Friends - $30+ per month (Steadily growing month on month)
Bux.to - $250+ per month
ClickCash Referral Earnings - $100+ per month
Other odds and sods (Mainly referral + estimated InfoLinks earnings) - $35+ per month
Without this blog I wouldn’t be earning that money from those sources, this is the only place I write about the advertising and referral networks that work for me. It’s the only place I drop those referral links (other than the odd PPC blast). That’s nearly $1000 each and every month extra, just by sharing what works. That’s a pretty cool place to be, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been brave enough to step up and try it as well. It’s a big big step from signing up with a network to actually implementing their ads but I can see that for some of you it’s working great, well done you.
I suppose I need to start thinking of some goals for this next year. I’d really like to see my RSS readership increase, so far it has topped out at 125, 200 would be nice. My other goal is going to be driving more traffic, whilst I’ve seen a steady increase I’d really like to hit 500 uniques a day, so that means doubling my current traffic. I know these are quite modest goals but at the moment this blog is 1 off 18 websites that I own and run, so I’ve got to be realistic about how much time I can put into it. That doesn’t mean that I’m any less determined to achieve those goals though.
So finally I’d just like to say a big thank you to everybody who has stopped by over the year, even if it was just for a few seconds. Or to call me names. Or to point out my mistakes. Gits.

Sweet man, Happy birthday, and congrats. I’d love to make a grand extra a month online. I guess I should use my problooger site to set up a “how-to” site like everyone else…hehehe (actually, i’m working on an ebook)
