Top Affiliate Challenge Exposes A Lot Of “Top Affiliates”

Posted by Paul B | July 5, 2008 .

Just before I go, has anybody else been watching the Top Affiliate Challenge? I’ve just been watching episode 3 and to be honest it left me disappointed….not in the program itself but in the whole affiliate marketing scene.

On that show there are 3 teams of 4 people, each led by a top internet marketer. The challenge is to make as much money as possible each day through affiliate marketing. Now I thought they’d be starting of with nothing and then building slowly day by day. I was tuning in to learn. Turns out that they have been allowed to fully utilise there existing resources as well as having special help via some of the ad networks. Keeping in mind that as well as the gurus some of the contestants claim to be some of the leading lights in affiliate marketing (or full of shit braggers maybe) I was amazed to see that so far the top 24 hour profit is only $780, the next best being $240!! WTF! Some of these guys claim to be making thousands a day on their own, in teams of 4+guru and taking advantage of their own mailing lists and other “traffic drivers” does nobody else find that appalling? With all the bragging of driving millions of visitors a day I was expecting to see several thousand dollars a day at least?

In order to get quick results all the teams seem to be relying heavily on pay-per-click through networks like FaceBook and Adwords. Some have even resorted to black mail in order to show any profit, not to mention begging for capital. Never in a million years would I claim to be an expert in this type of marketing and I would never claim it was easy. Look I’m crap at it, I admit it and that’s why I’d never even try for the show. Looks like maybe the program has found a few people out. So whilst I’ve spent many months feeling like a failure over not rolling out a series of successful PPC affiliate campaigns it turns out all along that it’s just not that easy. I know a couple of my regular readers feel the same and have also wasted time and money on this “easy peasy” make money method. So to those people out there who insist on pushing the latest hot PPC Affiliate E-Book whilst bragging about making $50,000 a day I say this, shove it up your ass! It’s either 1. Not that easy or 2. The contestants on the Top Affiliate Challenge are crap. What do you think?

How about Carl $150,000 in 5 months ($1000 a day), Jani (I can teach you how to make thousands a day) and Jonathan (the landing page expert) for starters?

jani is on my team, and I can say that I haven’t seen it…yet. maybe it is there but not so far. carl is on another team. word is that carl is decent but van clute is doing most of the heavy lifting. i know for a fact that his landing pages are killer for ppc/ppv/gqs http://www.biglandingpages.com <– evil affiliate link “rumor” and I’m serious when I say that is he gets a ton of cheap traffic with ppv not ppc, doesn’t convert very well, but makes it up in volume.

the question you have to ask yourselves, is jonathon doing what he does in real life or what he feels is going to get the task at hand done? i’ve got so much crazy stuff going on that it is hard for affiliate managers to report my earnings (i.e. negative $7 one day) but totally kicking ass the next day when it finally makes it into the account.

it is quite apparent that jonathon and his team are doing enough to kick john chow’s team in the rear. they might have even more up their sleeve and are saving it for the final showdown. i know I am. hth

It’s nice to get an insiders view and I hope you guys (all teams) can start to pull some real numbers, look forward to seeing it, when it happens. Personally I still think a few people are going to get found out on this (maybe even one of the gurus) :)

i think you “may” be speaking of team xy7 and their guru. thing is that john chow is known as being “evil” which doesn’t mean black hat like they said. he likes to mess with people. my only question is why would you just make people think your team totally sucks for such a long period of time?

when we did our negative $7 day, we acted like it didn’t matter the slightest because we knew that it was going to be on like donkey kong the very next day which it was. using such a tactic for so long and then bringing it like you actually care might win some leaderboards in the future but what about the negative response for your team members by the viewing public who may not see the future episodes. we already look like s*** by default. i’m going to try and get shoemoney to do some videos and discuss with me our different strategies and what we did. later

Cool, so that’s a little snippet that Shoe’s team have a great day 3 then!

I’ve seen that Garry Conn has had a go at poeple who are having a go at the TAC, he raises some quite fair points, especially about calling out the people doing the calling out (whoaaa this could go on and on). Anyhoo, if anyone wants to doubt my credentials please feel free, my online earnings provide me and my family with a very nice income so I couldn’t give a toss, cheers.

As far as the TAC goes as I’ve stated in Thor’s blog I’m actually quite enjoying the program as a whole. Sure it’s a bit over dramatic for what internet marketing really is but at the end of the day it’s supposed to be reality TV. My major gripe is that SO FAR none of these big players have made any real money. Anyway that’s all I’ve got for now, must pack.

Good post Paul. I’m not following that affiliate challenge in spite of all the expectation created around it on JohnChow’s, Shoemoney’s, etc… But if all that you told about is true, yes I think that $780 in the best day is quite far from the earnings they assure they get every month.

But also there is the possibility that they are not doing their best. As usual they don’t reveal the secret of affiliate marketing, so it is more of the same stuff…is it worth to see again the same things?
