I don’t think I’ve ever been so busy in my life. I can’t believe how much I’ve got on at the moment and so with no prospect of having any amount of time to research and put something better together here’s an update of just what’s going on.
Legal Stuff
This is sorted out now but has been a worry for a few days. What it boils down to is not so much what you can put on your own website but the type of websites you link to (or in my case don’t link to) or talk about. Put it this way, if you discuss a murder that’s in the news on your website, is this illegal? If you write something along the lines of “You can watch copies of TV programs on YouTube” – no embedding of TV program, not even a link to a program page (both of which aren’t a problem either in most countries) – does that make your page in breach of anybody’s rights? The answer is of course – NO! Not my opinion but that of the lawyers I’ve asked. If the doors were opened and you could be sued for merely talking about content that is hosted elsewhere then the internet would cease to be very quickly.
The Dating Experiment
I’m so far behind with this it’s not funny. I have content but no time to put it all together. My plan is to make a couple of hours this afternoon and at least give the static website enough content to make it worth indexing. I’m still very confident of making money with this. I’ve had 2 more markets suggested to me as well so I’ll be giving them a go after dating. One of them is poker, just in case anybody was wondering.
Adsense Privacy Policy Update
If you’re running Adsense then you need to get onto this ASAP. As it is each page should link to a privacy policy (doh, I didn’t include the link the last time I changed my theme) but now the content of that policy needs to be updated. Google are including a new cookie that allows Adsense advertisers to target what they offer depending on what you’ve done in the past. This is not an optional update, you need to do this if you want to carry on running Adsense. I can really see Google using this is an excuse to audit a lot of publishers so make sure your houses are in order people. If you’re going, “huh”, “what the hell’s he on about?” then here’s a very simple Privacy Policy generator. Create your Privacy Policy and link to it from the footer of your website so it appears on every page, I always use a re=”nofollow” attribute for this.
My WordPress Plugin
Results so far have been positive but not spectacular. I am getting more search engine traffic, that is a fact. I could be getting a lot more but I think I’m being held back a bit by not posting as often as I’d like – I need more hours in the day – that would help. But like I said the good news is that I’m definitely getting more search traffic. I’m going to carry on running it on a few different blogs for the next month, polish it up and then decide what to do with it.
That’s a brief summary of about 10% of the things I have going on at the moment. There is much more including 2 new programming projects, an update to the $100 Adsense Day, a new Adsense product I’ve bought to review and a few bits of client stuff but I’m beginning to bore myself now.

What kind of dating website are you attempting to do?
Will it be an actual dating site [think plenty of fish?]
Do you want to monetize with premium features or advertising [adsense or other?]
I have thought about the dating niche quite a lot, but never figured making your own dating site would pay off as it would be too hard to get members!

Don’t you wish you had more hours in the day? It’s amazing the amount of things you can get done if you focus, but I’m very similar- there’s never enough time for everything!
As far as all the laws out there- I know it can be frustrating (I feel like I need a lawyer following me full time to make sure I don’t violate laws I didn’t know existed), but it’s well worth it to consult about your sites prior to linking or posting questionable content. It will take a lot less time than a lawsuit!

The cool thing was I was getting threatened for possibly, maybe “breaking laws” in another country. I gave a local IP lawyer a look and there wasn’t a chance in hell that any of it would hold water.
It would be like me sueing Market Leverage from where I live cos you said I smelled a bit funny (online), and we have a local law that is against making personal smell insults.
It’s beyond a joke really, it’s probably a form of harrassment.

It’s interesting to hear about different customs and rules against them. There are probably millions of people here that would break that rule accidentally when in your country. I’m sure that goes for a lot of other cultures, too. Glad you were able to avoid legal trouble!
